Felt the baby kick! I suppose I’ve felt it before but yesterday was the first time I had no doubts. Charles was sitting next to me and felt it too. I loved the look on his face. A mix of surprise and delight and an incredulous “how could you think that was anything else?”

Sleeping on side

I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t sleep on my back because it apparently cuts off the blood to the fetus. Which doesn’t sound good.

So I’m trying to train myself to sleep on my side.

It’s not easy. I’m a deep sleeper so I wake up periodically to find I’ve rolled back over. So I started by putting a pillow there (one from the couch) and when that didn’t work, I added another one to the mix:

It’s pretty good but this morning I woke up with a very sore back from having the world shoved into it all night.

Anyone have any suggestions? I’m now officially ready to spend money.

Flying

So I was in Singapore last week and when I got off the plane on Friday, my ankles were no where to be found. They say you gain 25% more blood while pregnant and mine pretty much decided to have a party in my legs.

Here is a picture taken that night -over 12 hours later:

The bottom was all squished up from my sock. Looks just like a giant chicken leg hu?

To peek or not to peek?

When we got our last ultrasound, we had the chance to find out the gender. But one of us wanted to know and the other didn’t.

The pros of finding out are that we’ll have more time to get used to the idea, that it may feel more real and that we’ll have to think of fewer names : )

The pros to waiting are that it will be a surprise on the big day and that we won’t have so much time thinking about it’s gender alone.

The technician told us that it’s split about 50/50, by the way, between those who find out and those who don’t.

We decided to ask her to put the answer in an envelope so we could open it (or not) at a later date. So there it sits on our table, tempting us with a vision of the future…

Pants don’t fit

I bought an extender kit for my jeans over the weekend. Can’t button them anymore so this let’s me wear them longer. I also bought a tube thing that goes from the belly to over the top of my pants so I can keep wearing my normal shirts.

But despite all this I’m still in that hazy area where you can’t tell if I’m pregnant or fat.

Funny how hard it is to re-train my head to not worry about it. Half the time I’m self-conscious and the other half I’m loving the freedom.

We went for our 18 weeks ultrasound on Thursday. This should be the last one so no more pictures from the inside.

Back to brown

In anticipation of no more time ever again, I turned my hair back to brown today so that when it grows out, there won’t be huge lines on top of my head.

I went for an extra bright red streak though to compensate.
