First Family Puke Fest

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Charles and Gus are just getting over a doozy of a stomach thing. I managed somehow to miss it (so far) but I’ve been no help at all since I’ve started a full-time project for the next 3 weeks. Poor guys.

Father’s Day

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

This was actually Charles’ first Father’s Day since we left Australia before it hit there and arrived in Oregon after it hit here last year.

After all that, it was pretty mellow with Charles opting for our usual walk down to the coffee shop with Gus and me. Gus actually slept through most of it, but they had a nice walk on the way back.

Meanwhile I had big plans to put in a few hours of work for my Dad as his present. (Well, my first idea was to take him to breakfast but he liked this second plan better). But instead, we ended up taking a drive to The Dalles to do a few errands and he helped me make signs for Interesting Mosier. Not sure how that happened. But he seemed to know all along that it would. Sigh. I hate it when he’s right.

It was a bit tart.

But just a few more days until they are ready to pick.

Think & Drink

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

We just got back from hearing Aunt Lani give a cool philosophy talk with one of my favorite authors, Ursula K Le Guin. It was fabulous – serious & funny, warm & sharp witted…

My dear friends Casey & Shalen looked after Gus who was so excited to spend time with their boys that he was still up when we picked him up at 9pm (two hours past his bed time). So sleepy and so happy at the same time. Very interested to see what time he wakes up tomorrow.

Obsessed

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

It’s really cool that Gus can tell us what he wants now, but basically we could throw out all the other signs except ‘book’ and would still have crystal clear communication.

He has a handful of the cardboard ones available at all times but what he really wants are the paper ones we keep in the back beyond the barrier (which he can now scale, quickly and quietly on his steadfast mission). To be fair, he’s really gentle with the pages when he reads them alone, and the real danger is when he just gets too excited and accidentally folds them.

But he also loves it when we read to him and I keep thinking lately now nice it is that he’s the perfect size for a snuggle in the lap.
