It’s a ‘Yay, We’ve Managed to Keep Gus Alive a Whole Year’ Party

If you are around and feel like stopping by, we’re celebrating Gus’ birthday on Saturday the 21st from 2pm onward here at Dad’s orchard. We’ll have pizzas going all afternoon if you get hungry. Feel free to bring something to drink but no prezzies please.

Also, we’re blatantly stealing Casey & Shalen’s idea to make a book for Gus made up of things people we know have written. So if you’re at all interested, simply answer the question: what was last year like for you? It can be as long or short as you like. You can tell us about your typical weekday schedule or about any big changes that happened. The music you’re listening to, the car you’re driving, the clothes you’re wearing… Anything.

I know it all seems like a bit to do but please don’t feel any pressure to come or write if you’re not up for it. We just want to take a moment to step back and look at all the change this year and raise a glass to the first 365 days.

  1. They’re Grandma’s old clothes for Dad that I found in the attic. It was such a cool find and very weird to think of her as a new Mom. She even saved several pairs of those white leather baby shoes but they didn’t fit Gus’ chunks of meat.

  2. He is such a beautiful little person.

And, thinking of Grandma Reed as a young mother is fun. And Jim as a baby. Even more fun.

  3. Hi there,

We plan to come on up to the orchard and write a note about life this past year. How fun! What a great idea – the writing bit. We’re gonna steal that idea, too. Seb thought you had put Gus in Lederhosen. Yay for the first 365!

  4. I love these pictures Em. He’s such a beautiful boy and, I know Jake hates the mushy stuff, but he’s also so lucky to have such a vibrant and creative set of parents, who love to celebrate life in general and manage to inspire the best in all the people around them. I don’t know if we’ll make it, since I have to work that day, but we will do our best. I may try to write something, but since I’m still trying to write a “Christmas 2008” letter, that may not happen….or maybe if I write that, you can use it!
