Something is happening to Charles lately.
His computer hands are calloused from hauling in the firewood without gloves. His tool collection has grown to include actual tools in addition to all those random wires and cords. He now wears boots all the time and even helps Dad out with things on the skidder.
Who is this person?
Last night we went out to dinner to celebrate his 40th (!) and I gave him the book of people’s birthday wishes. He loved it -even choked back a few tears (in a decidedly manly way).
And this, this is the man who never wanted kids:
Is it the move to the Northwest? Old age? Snow on the brain?
Not sure. But since these changes also include fewer socks on the living room floor, I’m not complaining. (Note I didn’t say ‘no socks’ on the floor -he’s still Charles after all)
Happy Birthday Chuck! I believe it is the Buddhists who say a man is not grown until age 60 – I guess you decide what that means. Now whistling: “I’m a lumberjack and I’m OK.” Charles is very lumberjack, age 40+ (you are over 40 now), and daddy OK. Life is good, no?
I just can’t believe that Outdoor Chuck has been spawned. Just when I had gotten used to Super Charlie! x
Maybe it is the love of a good woman that is allowing him to blossom into a regular Hugh Jackman.
Happy Birthday Mr. Lumberj, er, Chuck…Glad to see you’re adapting gto life in the woods, just as Emily was able to adapt to life in the big Aussie city (nappie anyone?) 🙂
Happy 40th Charles! We’ll have a big belated party for both you and another soon-to-be-old man I know 😉 when we see you next…in Germany! xo
p.s. Al is sooooo jealous of the skidder
