Slinky Malinky was an adventurous cat…

Each night we read Gus a story -even though he doesn’t understand a word.

He seems to like it though. Pays attention to the voice tone I think.

He’s getting so he doesn’t cry as much when we put him down at night or for naps.  But often there are still a few songs we sing to wind him down. Here is the list that I sing:

  • Godspeed, Dixie Chicks
  • Lullaby, Dixie Chicks
  • Swing Low Sweet Chariot
  • Amazing Grace
  • Elvira (giddiup a dume bump a dume bump a mow mow)

And these are the ones Charles sings:

  • Dirty Old Town, Pogues
  • Superman, Crash Test Dummies
  • Fairy Tale of NY, Pogues

  1. While I definitely like the ones you are singing to the bub, I have to say Charles has exceptionally good taste in his lullabyes. Go The Pogues! Who knew that Shane McGowan could lull a baby to sleep. Gus is well on his way to being an eclectic music lover (country vs Irish punk).

  2. And I can’t say enough just how cute little Gus is. I hope our little one is as cute. He just looks so much like he’s really taking everything in and trying to process it all very openly and intensely. Just like his parents!

  3. That’s a terrific website! Just what I was looking for for getting some good lullabyes, etc. to sing when the baby comes! And I’d completely forgotten about that song!

  4. I would totally recommend Skippyjon Jones as one of the best read-aloud books ever. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s about a young cat who dreams of being a chihuahua and having adventures in Mexico as Skipito Bandito. It’s a huge hit will all my friends’ children and has great illustrations.

  5. Cool! Thanks. Will search it out as soon as we land. Nothing better than a cat crossed with chihuahua (except for maybe a chihuahua with a poodle) : )
